YMR Show and Cruise
Texas Motors Ford
Ft. Worth, TX - October 16, 2004

It was about time we had a show in Texas, since it's the second largest population of YMR members. We held our show in Fort Worth at the Texas Motors Ford (TMF) dealership. It was a huge success, breaking a YMR record with 66 yellow Mustangs showing up on Saturday for our sunny event! TMF was a great host, and provided free food, an on-site radio DJ, freebies, and one of the very first production '05 Mustang GT's.

Thanks to TMF, and to Christy at CARS Roadshow, we were able to give fantastic long distance awards. The top 3 received a trophy plaque, along with $150 to first, $100 to second, and $50 to third to show our gratitude at the mileage driven. The longest distance was 1736 miles one-way from California, by Jim and Bonnie Meyers! Second place was 1230 miles by Gary Kohn from Michigan. Third went to Scott Husby for his 1050 mile drive from Wisconsin. We also gave out a few free door prizes provided by AutoZone in Tulsa, OK, SSinserts.com, and from the Yellow Mustang Registry.

Charles Drake (doinou), our local show coordinator, did a great job of setting up all the details behind the scenes and organizing the cruising from one location to the other. We had some absolutely amazing 30+ car cruises around town. There's nothing like seeing 30 yellow Mustangs stretched for almost a mile going down the highway.

After the show, we headed to Hooters for dinner, photos, and our YMR Burnout Contest. A few members got their pictures taken with the Hooters girls, and then we headed out back to their spacious parking lot for a freestyle burnout competition. The winner was John O'Polka in his '99 Supercharged GT who blew everybody away with his long drifting burnout! By the time he was done, he had lost half the tread on his brand new Kumhos but who cares! The cheering crowd proved that it was a well deserved Burnout Trophy. Thanks for putting on a good show John! Watch John's burnout video HERE

After Hooters, we cruised back to the hotel for some R&R. It was a long day of fun in the sun, and we were all spent. We decided to hang out at the hotel bar and lounge to have a few beers and chat about the day's crazy events. The YMR crowd that stayed at the bar that night, seemed to all become great friends as if we'd known each other for years. The great relationships that were built over the weekend has already prompted the planning for several YMR Texas meets this year. You can read about those events in our Special Events Forum.
